"Call of Duty" concessions, console players can deal with cheating across platforms online

For host players who are troubled by the cheating problems of Call Of Duty, Activision has finally made a compromise. Starting from the third season of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6", players can turn off cross-platform online functionality in regular non-ranking matches, and this feature that players have been looking forward to for a long time has finally been realized. You should know that it has been six years since the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot first made cross-platform online as the core feature of Call of Duty.

Previously, players could only restrict cross-platform online in the ranking mode of Call of Duty (covering standard multiplayer battles and Warzone). The update of this third season extends this feature to "non-ranked multiplayer mode". After the third season is launched on April 2, the cross-platform options will be presented as follows:

Open: It can be matched with players on all game platforms in the selected gameplay.

Host only: matches only with other host players in the selected gameplay.

Close: Only match players on the current game platform in the selected gameplay.

However, Activision also issued a warning, saying that "choosing 'host only' may extend the matching waiting time." Completely turning off cross-platform features will undoubtedly slow down the matching speed. So why do players actively isolate a large number of potential opponents? The most direct reason is to balance the competitive environment by limiting the opponent's operating device type. Activision recently admitted that although 60% of the cheating reports come from console players, the actual cheating mainly occurs on the PC platform.

The severity of game cheating problems is still controversial. There are indeed many cases on the Internet showing off bypassing the Ricochet anti-cheating system of Call of Duty, but considering the status of Call of Duty as the world's top game, the proportion of games that actually encounter cheating may not be high.

However, since the game has long been regarded as a severely affected area of plug-ins, this is enough to prompt a large number of console players to choose to "get out of the PC player matching pool". This behavior may lead to prolonging the matching time for abide by the rules of PC players. Whether this impact is good or bad depends on the position of different players.
