The size of the "Like Dragon" team has almost never changed! No matter how busy you are, there are only these few people!
Recently, Masao Yokoyama, the head of RGG Studio, said in an interview with Denfaminicogamer that the scale of the "Like Dragon" series development team has basically remained stable since the debut of the first generation of works.
Hongyama Katsuyoshi revealed that during the peak development period, the core members of the "Royal" series project team have always maintained at around 70-80 people. It is worth noting that the members of this development team are not fixed - as a formal employee of Sega's first development department, 300 developers will flexibly arrange them between different IPs according to project priorities, including projects such as "VR Warrior" and "Code Name: Century". In addition to the "Super Monkey Ball" development team, members of RGG Studios generally adopt a multi-project parallel working model.
Yongshan pointed out that although next-generation console games usually require larger development teams, technological advancements are not only reflected in hardware performance—RGG Studio's continuously optimized development process allows it to respond to new projects at a relatively streamlined team scale. This becomes a key factor in maintaining a stable staff structure in the studio.
It is worth mentioning that RGG Studio has established a good balance between new material creation and resource reuse. Through the ever-expanding original material library, the studio has effectively controlled the excessive growth of labor costs. In addition, the team's technological breakthroughs in automated testing and game debugging have significantly improved development efficiency and greatly reduced the working time required for related links.
