"Death Stranding 2" update focuses on gameplay optimization! Not touching on the core narrative

Recently, Hideo Kojima, director of "Death Stranding 2", shared his concepts about creation, emphasizing that he will strictly control the later updates of the game, especially with a cautious attitude in terms of story content and DLC.

Kojima said that although the game can be updated through patches and DLC after the release, which is a major advantage of the game, he believes that key content should not be easily modified. "Stories are the product of a particular era and should not be changed at will," he explained, analogy to George Lucas's practice of modifying Star Wars through CG, believing that it is a re-creation of the original. He himself insisted on retaining the "time" mark when the work was originally released.

So, future updates of "Death Stranding 2" will focus on the optimization of gameplay details, such as the ease of use of props and interface (UI) adjustments, with the purpose of improving the operating experience without changing the core narrative content.

For DLC, Kojima also made it clear that he was not keen on. “DLC is not a trend,” he said bluntly, “once it starts, it’s stuck in a never-ending cycle of updates.” He fears that it will make the game as impossible as some works, which is not ideal for creators who focus on story integrity.
