Stanford Online High School Principal: Forcibly banning games will bring psychological risks
Japan PHP Research Institute announced that it will release its new book "Why Playing Games Makes the Brain Smart" on June 17, 2025.
The author of this book, Xing Youqi, is currently the principal of Stanford Online High School. He often hears students and parents questioning games in his daily work, so he puts forward the view that "forcibly banning games will bring psychological risks."
The book systematically explains the relationship between game and cognitive ability based on the latest research on brain science and psychology.
In response to the phenomenon that games are often linked to decline in performance and violent tendencies, Xingyouqi pointed out that these negative effects only occur in extreme cases of "game addiction". Research shows that it is not that games cause obstacles to academic work, but that people with poor academic work are more likely to be addicted to games.
Latest scientific research confirms that shooting and action games can significantly improve spatial cognitive abilities, working memory and short-term memory; role-playing, puzzle-solving and strategy games help enhance problem-solving skills.
