Production Director of "Elden's Circle: Reign of Night": Inspired by speedrunning style

Jan 06 2025

"Elden's Circle: Reign of Night" is scheduled to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms in 2025. Recently, IGN Japan interviewed the game's production director Junya Ishizaki and discussed in depth the details of the game's gameplay.

Ishizaki Junya has extensive experience in game development. He has served as a level designer for the "Dark Souls" series, a level and combat designer for "Bloodborne", and "Dark Souls 3". and combat designer for Elden's Circle. "Elden Ring: Reign of Night" was developed with Junya Ishizaki as the core team, while Hidetaka Miyazaki participated in the concept construction in the early stages of the project.

After repeated testing, the developers believe that in "Elden Ring: Reign of Night", the three-person co-fight mode can best balance the difficulty of cooperative challenges and individual fun among players, rather than Two or four people. It is worth noting that this game adopts a buyout system rather than an operational model, so players do not need to worry about a poor experience like some games.

Junya Ishizaki revealed that they are committed to creating a "condensed version of RPG" that shows the core charm of RPG through a compact high and low experience. If a traditional RPG experience takes three days, then "Land of Night" can condense the essence of these three days into 40 minutes. The "optimal solution selection" and "game skill improvement" in the speed-running style are highly consistent with the gameplay of this game. It can even be said that this game is partly inspired by the speed-running culture.

In the official version of "Elden Circle: Lord of the Night", players will encounter eight BOSSs. As the game progresses, players will face diverse BOSS challenges, including a Final BOSS. Most of the story clues in the game are closely connected with the final BOSS.

Every time the game starts, the map will randomly change, including stronghold locations, BOSS types, and obtainable weapons and props. In addition, the game also introduces asynchronous network elements, allowing players to inherit weapons or props used by other players.

Finally, Junya Ishizaki made it clear that they currently have no plans to add PvPvE or brawl modes, and that "Elden Ring: Lord of the Night" will be developed with cooperative fighting as its core.
